Big money at the Ferdinand Leisten Memorial
Big money at the Ferdinand Leisten Memorial
Big money is at stake again on Friday at the BBAG Auction Race: The Ferdinand Leisten Memorial over 1,400m is the most valuable race for two-year-old horses in Germany with a total purse of 200,000 Euros. Even in 7th place there is still 10,000 euros to be earned.
Eleven horses will be competing at the racecourse in Baden-Baden-Iffezheim for the richly filled pots. West Man (Areion), trained by Andreas Suborics, proved his class by finishing third in the Future Race in Iffezheim (archive photo Rühl), but afterwards the grapes were clearly too high at Group I level in Paris.
Renz trio at the start
The opposition includes the trio prepared by Markus Klug, Backes (Millowitsch), Koelle (Make Believe) and Tuppes (Genghis Secret), who - as the Cologne names suggest - are all owned by Holger Renz. Backes was sixth in the Prize of the Winter Favourite (Gr.III) just a week ago.
The winner will be Ghorgan (Study Of Man), trained by Andreas Wöhler. He won his lifetime debut at the auction race in Düsseldorf. Emir (Millowitsch) has already won in Iffezheim. The protégé of Mario Hofer secured the Youth Prize in the spring, but only managed eighth place in the Future Race. The home interests were represented by Gina's Lion (Lucky Lion) from the quarters of Fabian Weißmeier and Viking (Ten Sovereigns) from Gerald Geisler.
Shortly after the end of the first day of racing at the Sales & Racing Festival, the Autumn Auction will begin at 5pm and continue on Saturday at 10am. You can view the catalogue online on the BBAG website.
